Kuah had these on his lifters when I installed the Tomei pieces and his demo cams he got form JWT. That coating from what I checked is a hardness coating to protect the lifter from the camshaft. Its similar to a DLC coating that we'd have put on camshafts or other primary component parts in the cylinder heads. Thats about as much info as I could get. Hope that helps Mike.
